[과학산책] BBC Human Universe 자유낙하운동 실험 (2021.03.16)

? 물리교육과 출신 허 교장이 영국 BBC 방송에서 제작한 ‘자유낙하운동 실험’ 동영상을 카톡으로 보내왔다. 진공 상태에서 볼링공과 깃털을 같은 높이에서 떨어뜨릴 때 두 물체가 동시에 땅에 닿는 것을 보여주는 재미난 실험이다. 아래 링크한 유튜브 영상을 열어 보시기 바란다.

■ BBC Human Universe 자유낙하운동 실험

Do you remember learning about Galileo, the father of physics, who was born in Pisa, Italy, in 1564 and lived until 1642. He discovered the Rings of Saturn, among other things Galileo also discovered that any object falling to earth falls at the same rate.

He mentioned that a cannonball and a feather if dropped from the same height, will touch the ground at the same time provided there is no air resistance. I always found this hard to believe.

Even Galileo had difficulty explaining it for quite a long time. Four centuries later, with the current technology, it has been experimentally demonstrated. Open the attachment, watch full screen to view/listen to the verification experiment. It's a great visual treat to watch.

물리학의 아버지 갈릴레오에 대해 배운 것을 기억하시나요? 그는 1564년 이탈리아 피사에서 태어나 1642년까지 살았으며, 토성의 고리를 발견하였으며 무엇보다도 땅에 떨어지는 물체는 조건이 같다면 같은 속도로 떨어진다고 했습니다.

즉 포탄과 깃털을 같은 높이에서 떨어뜨릴 때 공기저항이 없다면 동시에 지면에 닿을 것이라고 했지요. 나는 항상 이러한 주장을 믿기 힘들었습니다.
